In followup to Jill’s post yesterday on our Facebook page, I am attaching a post on fb from a young African man called Mosa Mphore. To me, he represents exactly WHY the SA government should be doing more to address the appalling situation regarding kidney transplantation in this country. He is young, dynamic, highly intelligent and would by now be stone dead without the transplant he had a few years ago:
“What proactive steps will the government take to alleviate the problem of having a shortage of organ donors when its already at its worst?? South Africa has been facing this problem for far too long while the department of health has been dragging its feet in addressing it. Only NGOs have taken up the fight of ensuring that sufficient awareness is created around this topic with very little to no support from the gov. I, myself, am a transplant recipient and started an NGO called Open-Eye Foundation in order to create awareness on organ donation, specifically in black communities as they are the least informed on the matter yet are the very ones filling up the transplant waiting lists. We have requested numerous meetings with the MEC and HOD of Health for 3 years now to try get assistance in educating the public further yet our requests have been ignored.”
Just wait Mose, when I have had my transplant… the situation is beyond frustrating. Another few days to find out if Jill and I are kidney compatible, plese dig deep and get that positive energy, prayer, and any kind of body contortion out (finger, toe crossing), ready for a good result… Have a great evening/day all. love Di xxx
